Wow, the fall box season snuck up on me quickly. My appologies for sending this out 2 days prior to our first pracitce which is Thursday Aug 8th from 5:30pm to 7pm. The location is the outdoor roller hockey rinks near Walmart (see picture below). Practices are optional however highly recommended. I try to keep practices high paced while at the same time instructional. At this age, playing goes a long way so I hope to scrimmage much of practice. Gear used in spring should be good as long as you kid hasn't outgrown them. Some kids get rib gards as well as box does allow cross checking similar to hockey. I'd say rib guards are still not as important however I'll leave that up to you. I'm a fan of the STX stallion 200 youth gear along with the youth sticks that have a thinner diameter shaft. If there is anything other questions I can help with, please catch me after practice and I'd be more than happy to help.
Please also know that box lacrosse tends to be a little more physical than spring lacrosse. I'd compare it to more like hockey if that comparison helps. Cross checking is the only check approved which can tend to look rough. Kids aren't allowed to cross check above the shoulders or below the waist. If you'd like to discuss this further please catch me after a practice.
Looking forward to a fun fall season. Excited to get everything going this week. Game schedules should be released soon. I believe we'll have our first game in one or two weeks. As I receive this information I'll send along to everyone. I'd also suggest you check the Raptors website as the program will update this information once they have it set.
